Welcome to JSJ Melbourne What is Jin Shin Jyutsu ? Often referred to as Acupuncture without needles, Jin Shin Jyutsu ® Physio-Philosophy (JSJ) is an ancient Japanese artform, utilising gentle body work that is practiced by placing fingertips on specific locations on the body to stimulate the energy or lifeforce and restore the body to a harmonious balance. This facilitates the reduction of tension and stress which accumulates in the body through daily living. How did JSJ originate?
The origins of JSJ have predated Buddha. The Kojiki (Book of Records - 712 AD) are housed in the archives of the Imperial palace in Japan, containing the earliest written records of JSJ, this art was revived by Master Jiro Murai at the beginning of the 20th Century. Mary Burmeister, a long standing and devoted student of Master Murai brought to the USA in the 1950's. After many years of study and application Mary Burmeister has shared her knowledge of this ancient art. There are now over 13,000 practitioners around the world. There are aspects of Oriental medicine involved in Jin Shin Jyutsu from listening to the pulse and holding of fingers which directly relate to the corresponding attitudes in the body. What can I expect from a session?
Jin Shin Jyutsu can be applied by a trained practitioner as well as the client, utilising self-help exercises. A Jin Shin Jyutsu session lasts for approximately one hour. It does not involve massage, manipulation of muscles, use of medicines or any other substances. The client will experience a sense of deep relaxation whilst the practitioner applies his fingertips (over clothing) on the designated sites of the body which are called Safety energy locks. For those who are wishing to be proactive in their health, Jin Shin Jyutsu is a simple and powerful tool.
How can JSJ help ?
JSJ can aid a myriad of different conditions. Both physical symptoms as well as emotional situations can be assisted. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an adjunct and partner to Western medicine. It is safe and can be used with any other therapy or medication. It can be applied anywhere and at anytime. For example the holding of the thumb can alleviate worry. This is often why children suck their thumbs. How many sessions will I need ? To maximise the potential of JSJ, 3 sessions are necessary in the first week to 10 days. Then 1-2 sessions per week as the physical/emotional symptoms change. In the main, after 8 sessions, an assessment will take place in which the client and practitioner deciding the next step in the healing picture. Generally, once a fortnight/month treatments are encouraged for maintenance and importantly, self-help exercises are given to be utilised at home.
